This is my friend Sami. We work together.
And we dress up together on western days.
We love each other too.
Don't judge us. We would die without each other.
A few months ago Sami went to the gateway and came across a store that was selling these whistles. She stopped to check them out and was hooked by the story. Check it out here!
In case you don't have time to read the whole story I will do the short version. Over in Congo, the soldiers kidnap little kids. Once they have them, they train them how to handle guns and other various weapons. They make the children fight with them. They also give the children whistles and throw them on the front lines of war. The children blow the whistles to get the attention of the enemies. Once the enemies approach, they gun down the front line which are the little kids. They run for their lives and if they aren't fast enough.. they don't make it. Breaks my heart! When you buy a necklace the money goes towards saving the little kids!
Sami ended up buying a necklace. After a few weeks she thought she lost it. Next time she was at gateway she bought another one. Then she found the one she lost. So what did she do with the other one? Gave it to me. Let me tell you.. they aren't cheap. She is a good friend. We wear them proudly as a symbol of peace in Congo. Go us. Making the world a better place one whistle at a time.
